About Us
Kozara winery was founded in 2015 by Ing. Peter Maček and Branislav Strašiftak. We come from winemaking families with more than 50 years of viticulture and winemaking tradition. As is typical for this region, our parents made wine primarily for family and friends in the area. With the new winery, we wanted to connect to the rich traditions of our wine region, family traditions and acquired knowledge. By building new premises with a higher hygienic and technological standard, we are trying to make the KOZARA winery a modern family business with a sustainable perspective of grape and wine production.
Our intention is to produce wines from grape varieties typical of the Modran wine-growing region and the Slovak nouveau riche. Part of our winery is also growing grapes in our own vineyards. Currently, we manage more than 4 hectares of vineyards in different parts of Šenkvíce - hon Kozare, Krče, Cerovské podcesty and Grafty.
You can enjoy the quality of our wines not only at home, but also directly with us, in our pleasant tasting room. We located the operation of the winery in a narrow valley in the eastern part of the Šenkvik farmstead - Kozare, from which we also derived the name of our winery. The surrounding landscape architecture and newly planted vineyards will highlight the overall impression of our wine.
Vineyards and grapes
The grapes for the production of our wines originate only from the Modranský vinohradnícke region. Some of the grapes come from our vineyards, some from winegrowers from Šenkvíce and Modra.
The predominant soil in our vineyards is brown soil on loess hills with a high content of nutrients in the upper parts of the soil and clay in the lower parts of the soil. The advantage of this type of soil is water retention and a positive effect on the formation of acids in grapes. The vineyards on the hills are airy thanks to the winds from the Lesser Carpathians and have enough sun during the growing season. All of this makes up the unique "terroir" of our wine-growing region.
